An OPG can be the eye of a lower-face bird or a wide read-x, which displays all the teeth of the upper and lower jaws on a film. It displays the number, position, and growth of all teeth to which they have not yet been exposed or erupted. This is different from small close-up X-ray dentists of individual teeth. An OPG can also reveal problems with the jaw bone and joints that connect the job bone to the head called the temporomandibular joint or TMJ. For orthodontic treatment planning, the OPG may be requested for the assessment of wisdom teeth or for a general overview of teeth and bone-supporting teeth.
Process
You may be asked to remove jewelry, eyeglasses, and any metal objects that may obscure the images. You will be asked to gently bite down on a piece of sterile mouth to rest on a small shelf and stabilize your head. This is very important when taking an X-ray. You will not feel any discomfort during the process.
